Fashion at the Grove

The fashion show at The Grove last Thursday was both fun and a great way for Barneys to gain even more publicity. We literally wanted every look that came down their square-shaped runway. The show drew in a good mix of fashionistas as well as fashion forward media. The Los Angeles Times was spotted, Nick Verreos from Project Runway, and even Vogue sent reps out. We hope there are more shows to come at The Grove.

The Fashion Show Recap

If you follow fashion savvy people on Twitter like we do, then most likely your screens yesterday were buzzing with “are you watching The Fashion Show Tonight?” Last night Bravo premiered their latest fashion hit, which actually turned out to be more of a miss.

For starters, the people looked just plain weird! “Merlin the Magician” was by far the kookiest of the um, eclectic bunch with his cape and ridiculous ensembles. Then there’s James, whose look is reminiscent of Christian Siriano and bases his designs on “post colonialist theories”. Huh? Semi normal looking contestant Kristen even said, “I'm in the weirdest summer camp ever”.

Sure, the “crazies” of the world often prove to be creative geniuses. But that doesn’t seem to be the case with this group. After their mediocre runway shows, hosts Isaac Mizrahi, Kelly Roland and judge Fern Mallis were, thankfully, brutally honest. Everyone’s garments looked like Sewing 101 projects. We did like contestants Johnny and Merlin’s little black dresses they had to create during a mini challenge. We also liked the brief glimpse that we saw of Daniella’s menswear inspired portfolio.

The show itself looked low budget, but hey - it is the first season. We didn’t entirely hate it by any means. We did love the triangle shaped runway and the fact that their fashion shows are filled with people and not just a panel of judges. We also loved Isaac, who just might be the only reason to continue tuning in. It was obvious that Kelly was saying rehearsed lines, but she’s just so adorable that you have to love her.

Bottom line: this was no Project Runway. While Project Runway has introduced the world to so much talent, The Fashion Show felt like they gathered all of the C students and put them to work.

Will you continue to tune in?

Fred Segal Reality Show

Bravo is still trying to get over the loss of Project Runway. According to shoppingblog, the network has ordered a new reality tv series that will take place inside a Fred Segal store in Santa Monica. “The show will document the daily drama at one of the brand's retail outlets in Santa Monica, focusing on the stressed out and competitive sales team.” Is there seriously that much drama going on at Fred Segal? Morgan thinks it sounds interesting. Guess we’ll have to watch and find out!

Bravo Moves On

How do some get over a nasty break up? By dating someone new, of course. Apparently Bravo has the same mentality. After the devastating end of their 4 year-long relationship with Project Runway, Bravo has announced that they're moving on with their new hit hopeful, The Fashion Show. Bravo's describing it as a "fashion creative competition series that follows 15 designers that range in age from 22 to 38 as they compete for a chance to have their designs sold in the retail market and win a $125,000 prize." Sounds like Bravo goes after the same type. Instead of Elle, Harper's Bazaar will serve as hostess magazine.

The show will be hosted by the practical designer we all know and love, Isaac Mizrahi, co-hosted by the lovely singer, Kelly Rowland (glad she has a job), & judged by the "queen of fashion week", senior VP at IMG, Fern Mallis. Morgan Kirkpatrick, B|E’s newest intern and devout Project Runway fan, says, “Isaac Mizrahi is a very talented, successful designer, but he’s no match to the gorgeous and witty Heidi Klum, and there isn’t a single designer out there who could touch the infamously showy Michael Kors with a 10-foot pole. Based on my remarks, I’m sure you can tell where I’m going with this - I will not be watching The Fashion Show”.

For those of us who still get sucked in to shows revolving around the fashion world, The Fashion Show will premiere on Bravo on May 7, and we won't consider it cheating if you sneak a peek.

Prayers Have Been Answered!!

It is finally official. “The Weinstein Company will pay NBCU for the right to move Project Runway to Lifetime. All of the parties are pleased with the outcome.” To say that the B|E party is pleased is an understatement! The show introduced us to draping genius Rami Kashoú, the talented Michael Knight and of course, Christian Siriano. Wonder who the show will bless us with this season? Side note: Lifetime for fashion?? Typically when thinking of Lifetime, butt-kicking, no nonsense women come to mind, or touching tear-jerker movies. Oh well, we’re just happy it’s back!
