Who says the G8 Summit is all about foreign affairs, the environment and social development? Hosted in Italy this year, the first ladies of eight of the most powerful countries in the world are putting Christian Dior and Jimmy Choo (just to name a few) on the international poli-fashion map. And the United States’ own style trailblazer Michelle Obama is leading the pack, seen here wearing a conservativ

e yet stylish and flattering knee-length dress from Jason Wu’s Spring 2009 line. The controversial Minister of Equal Opportunity Mara Carfagna channeled her fashion sense from Audrey Hepburn circa 1950’s, decked out in a traditional black sheath, coupled with a Christian Dior bag. Who did not grace the opening day festivities with her chic and smart fashion sense was Carla Bruni, wife of French president Nicolas Sarkozy, who snubbed the first ladies luncheon due to recent criticism of Pope Benedict XVI. Nonetheless, if the first day is in any way indicative of what’s to come from these powerful women, style mavens will have much to talk about and look forward to as the summit continues to change the world and define fashion.
