Kitson Rocks Out

So yea…we are pretty much obsessed with the new clothing line Rockstar. We just got word that the trendy Melrose boutique, Kitson, loves Rockstar as well. Tyler fills us in on the details…

I’ve been following this line from its birth, and predict big things. This country needs a brand like Rockstar – edgy, sexy, rebellious, priced right and most importantly – DIFFERENT. I am tired of the same designers and clothes, everywhere you go. Guys like options too, and it’s about time a line recognized the need for some edgy apparel. I will be following this line closely. You should too. Rock on mofos.

Fred Segal Reality Show

Bravo is still trying to get over the loss of Project Runway. According to shoppingblog, the network has ordered a new reality tv series that will take place inside a Fred Segal store in Santa Monica. “The show will document the daily drama at one of the brand's retail outlets in Santa Monica, focusing on the stressed out and competitive sales team.” Is there seriously that much drama going on at Fred Segal? Morgan thinks it sounds interesting. Guess we’ll have to watch and find out!

Project Runway Delay

Project Runway Season 6 won’t premiere until Thursday, August 20th at 10PM est. Grr! What are we supposed to watch until then?

Sustainable = Sexy

In light of Earth Day, we thought we’d feature a fashion forward sustainable clothing line. Typically when we think of green clothing, style does not come to mind. But with eco-friendly clothing company Marchuska, sustainable = sexy! Their whole reason for starting the company was because “the current available eco-friendly clothing was not fashionable.” Not only are their clothes chic, they’re affordable. We’re convinced that this is the perfect way to celebrate Earth Day in style.

Marie Claire's Reality

Marie Claire’s reality TV show, Running in Heels, came to an end last night (tear). For those that didn’t get around to watching, the show followed three women as they interned for the magazine. There were no staged challenges, no weekly eliminations. In fact, the show had a very real feel to it. Well, as real as reality TV can get.

In the end, former intern Talita was chosen and will serve as the magazine’s west coast contributor. We are beyond relieved that whiny, aggressively competitive Ashley was not chosen. We loved Samantha’s personality, and think it’s great that in the end she viewed it as a learning experience and realized that the magazine industry was not for her.

It’s apparent that Marie Claire is trying to up their fashion game and appear more relevant to stylish twenty-somethings. After taking a behind the scenes look at Marie Claire and falling in love with Editor-in-chief Joanna Coles, we’ll admit that now we’re more likely to leaf through the mag.

You can also follow Marie Claire on Twitter!

No Louie for Amber

Sources at fellow fashion blog, The Cut, just confirmed that the Amber Rose pic is NOT a part of the Kanye West Louis Vuitton sneaker ad campaign. No word yet on what the photo is actually for, but we’ll keep you posted! In the meantime, enjoy.

'Ye or Nay?

Kanye’s Louis Vuitton sneaker ad campaign has launched and is kicking up controversy. Some are saying that the fact that video-vixen Amber Rose is pictured nude is destroying LV’s image. Others find the ads artistic and classy. What do you think?

Omg. Lily in the 80's

Still not sure how we feel about this, but the Lily van der Woodsen 80's centric spin-off ads have been leaked! The Gossip Girl spin-off, Valley Girls, will focus on Lily's wild-child days of hardcore partying, being Rufus' groupie, and apparently, jail time.

While the Lily-Rufus epic made for a juicy Gossip Girl backdrop, does it warrant a series worth of Lily-Rufus flashbacks? Fellow Gossip Girl fans and BE team members Jessica Lieu and Kendra Smith are skeptical. Either way, we’ll check it out. Not that we’re excited or anything.

Governed by Style

Somewhere in our beautiful home state of California, there must be a want-ad that says, “Come be our governor, no matter what your previous experience”. As if having the “Govenator” as governor wasn’t enough, California just might have a fashion designer at the realm. Co-founder of clothing giant Guess Inc., Georges Marciano, has reportedly filed paperwork yesterday with the secretary of state's office to run as an independent in 2010. Marciano’s publicist stated that he “plans to focus on exposing and eliminating political corruption” and will launch a formal campaign soon. Guess we’ll see in 2010 if Sacramento will become a new style capital.

Recluse-chic

Five minutes ago, we had no idea who Big and Little Edie were or what the movie “Grey Gardens” was even about. But after extensive Googling, we’ve learned that the film is about has-been mother and daughter socialites who are related to Jackie O. and live reclusively in a rotting mansion. Why should you care? Despite their hermit lifestyles, the women were style mavens and influence many designers today. LA Times fashion critic Booth Moore put it best by saying that the film “gets at the very core of style, which is not about fitting in or following a trend, but making the most of what you’ve got. And in times like these, it’s nice to be reminded that style doesn’t cost a thing.”

Grey Gardens will premiere on HBO on Saturday April 18, 2009

Thomas Pink has combined style and sound in his iPod Commuter tie. Tyler gives his take on the idea...

Oh this one I like! An accessory designed with form, fashion and function. I often think of neckties as the white-collared working man’s hyperbolic noose. They really serve little to no purpose other than hiding buttons and catching food. Sure a great tie can look sharp, especially when decorated with a cool tie clip (see Gabriella Artigas’) but adding an actual function such as the iPod pocket ties together my two favorite loves, music and fashion. And why not, when was the last time you went to a runway show without a soundtrack? If you see me dancing down the street wearing nothing but a tie and jogging shoes don’t be alarmed – I just like to party.

Tie-pins

Here’s a cool little accessory we found for guys who want to add even more style to their ties. Gabriela Artigas’ tie-pins come in your choice of gold or silver and is the perfect finishing touch for the guy who wants to stand out.

Chanel Concept Car

O.M.G. Jin Young Jo , from South Korea’s Honk-it University, has designed a chic and futuristic Chanel concept car. The very sleek, sexy vehicle, named The Fiore, is currently showcased at the New York Car show. Let’s hope this car-couture trend will catch on so the coupe will go into production.

Bruna, it is You!

So our contact at Nordstrom just confirmed that model Bruna Tenorio is featured in their April 2009 catalog. Like always, the Brazilian beauty makes every item of clothing she wears lust-worthy. If you don't get the catalog sent to the house, you can view it online at Nordstrom.com

Gwyneth is Spring Cleaning

Gwyneth Paltrow is cleaning out her closet! Ordinarily this wouldn't affect us, but the high profile starlet has decided to auction off her barely-worn designer goods on Ebay. All proceeds will go to the Robin Hood Foundation, which is a charity that benefits poverty in NYC. Discounted designer items for a good cause? Click below to start bidding.

Happy bidding!

Identity Theft

If Perez Hilton is the new Paris Hilton, then what does that make Paris? The new Lady Gaga, apparently. First Paris’ frenemy Nicole Richie poses as Lady Gaga on the cover of BlackBook, now Paris is emulating her futuristic, bondage-y style. Hopefully this is just a phase and Paris will leave the Star Trek shades alone.

Bruna, is that you?

Ok, maybe our eyes are playing tricks on us, but the model featured in Nordstrom’s April 2009 catalog looks exactly like the amazingly beautiful (and our personal fave) top-runway model, Bruna Tenorio. We’re still waiting on sources to confirm, but we’ll keep you posted!

Glitterati

Pretty sure the world is not ready for it, but Malaysian designer Faisol Abdullah has created the most expensive dress on the planet. Priced at an astonishing 30 million dollars, the otherwise plain tank-dress is adorned with 751 premium diamonds that weigh over 1,000 carats. Each stone was intricately fastened by diamond guru Robert Mouawad. Angelina Jolie and Nicole Kidman are already fans of Mouawad diamonds, maybe they’ll be interested in a dress that nobody can afford. The dress made its debut last Friday at the Mercedes-Benz STYLO Fashion Awards Gala in front of 500 handpicked guests. Sounds good and all, but somebody might want to tell Faisol that Karl Lagerfeld officially declared that the age of “bling is over”.

Tailored Shorts

"Awkward" is the first thing that comes to mind when we look at these, eh, interesting pair of shorts. We hear they're by Paul Smith and you can get them from the London-based store Harvey Nichols. Although we are all for creativity, these get a thumbs down. We will, however, award them a gold star for trying.

Bravo Moves On

How do some get over a nasty break up? By dating someone new, of course. Apparently Bravo has the same mentality. After the devastating end of their 4 year-long relationship with Project Runway, Bravo has announced that they're moving on with their new hit hopeful, The Fashion Show. Bravo's describing it as a "fashion creative competition series that follows 15 designers that range in age from 22 to 38 as they compete for a chance to have their designs sold in the retail market and win a $125,000 prize." Sounds like Bravo goes after the same type. Instead of Elle, Harper's Bazaar will serve as hostess magazine.

The show will be hosted by the practical designer we all know and love, Isaac Mizrahi, co-hosted by the lovely singer, Kelly Rowland (glad she has a job), & judged by the "queen of fashion week", senior VP at IMG, Fern Mallis. Morgan Kirkpatrick, B|E’s newest intern and devout Project Runway fan, says, “Isaac Mizrahi is a very talented, successful designer, but he’s no match to the gorgeous and witty Heidi Klum, and there isn’t a single designer out there who could touch the infamously showy Michael Kors with a 10-foot pole. Based on my remarks, I’m sure you can tell where I’m going with this - I will not be watching The Fashion Show”.

For those of us who still get sucked in to shows revolving around the fashion world, The Fashion Show will premiere on Bravo on May 7, and we won't consider it cheating if you sneak a peek.

In Other Nigo News…

Ok, now that we’ve cleared up the whole Nigo stepping down situation, let’s take this time to focus in on what’s being called his “latest and greatest toy”. Apparently not even iconic cars are safe from the Bathing Ape camouflage print. Nigo took a Mercedes Benz SL300 Gullwing with a transplanted AMG 6.0L V8 engine and plastered it with the signature pattern. The Bape Mobile made its debut last Friday at Bape’s Hong Kong 3 Year Anniversary Party.

Anyway you put it, blow-up dolls are gross! Male designer/artist from Utrecht, Sander Reijgers, views his creations as ‘works of art’. Tyler weighs in on the matter…

Inflatable love dolls as fashion? It might be because of the gaping plastic mouth on the hood of this jacket, but this guy seems really f****d in the head. I appreciate wearable art and the use of alternate mediums, but this concept simply blows…or maybe it just sucks. Either way, I think I’ll keep my wardrobe orifice free.

Nigo Steps Down

Initially we thought it was an April Fool’s joke, but apparently Nigo has stepped down as president and director of A Bathing Ape. His camouflage hoodies and colorful sneakers have developed a cult following and made guys everywhere fiends. But before the depression sets in, he will still remain as a majority owner of A Bathing Ape’s parent company, Nowhere Co., Ltd. Nigo will also continue as a designer for his 15 year old company, as well as maintain his partnership as head designer and co-owner of BBC/Ice Cream with singer/producer Pharrell Williams. Whew! So design wise, he’s still in control. That’s all we needed to hear!

Prayers Have Been Answered!!

It is finally official. “The Weinstein Company will pay NBCU for the right to move Project Runway to Lifetime. All of the parties are pleased with the outcome.” To say that the B|E party is pleased is an understatement! The show introduced us to draping genius Rami Kashoú, the talented Michael Knight and of course, Christian Siriano. Wonder who the show will bless us with this season? Side note: Lifetime for fashion?? Typically when thinking of Lifetime, butt-kicking, no nonsense women come to mind, or touching tear-jerker movies. Oh well, we’re just happy it’s back!

Nicole Richie....Fashion Designer?

Who knew that starring in a reality t.v. show segways into being a fashion designer? It sort of worked for Lauren Conrad, now Nicole Richie is hoping for success in the fashion world as well. Richie has partnered with manufacturers Rick and Brian Cytrynbaum, who already own multiple brands, to create a multi-product lifestyle line. The line will debut in spring 2010 and already has a multi-year licensing agreement. Despite being preggers with Joel Madden's second child, Nicole is hard at work designing the entire line. According to Rick, "Nicole is designing everything herself. She's totally devoted to this, and we're creating a whole lifestyle around her aesthetic and what is true to her." Nicole's line will include about 20 footwear styles, a small collection of apparel, bags, sunglasses, belts and other small accessories. Can't wait to see what reality star turned designer means for Nicole Richie.
